PRO TALK: Accelerate Blockchain Applications Development with BPM
BPM-based application platforms can greatly simplify and enhance the development of applications on blockchain. BPM’s graphically based low-code development capabilities allow blockchain application developers to extract the complexity of blockchain and model it visually, so that it’s easier to quickly integrate applications with any public or private blockchain technology. @Bonitasoft we’ve built a few prototypes this year, and engaged with customers about building business solutions that leverage blockchain technology. Examples of these solutions: management of automobile orders using Chain.com and a document approval process using Stratumn blockchain technologies. In this talk we’ll discuss how we handle the complexity of integrating these solutions by leveraging the integration capabilities of a BPM-based application platform. We’ll also highlight the how to leverage a process-based approach to implement the business logic of the applications. This has a strong common point with blockchain’s concept of “always-forward” motion.

CANCELLED: PRO TALK: Blockchain 101: Getting Rid of the Middleman When it Comes to Controlling Your Assets
At the height of the financial crisis in 2008, new Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT), also known as Blockchain, emerged, combining peer to peer networking, cryptography and distributed systems to develop a new type of database. The primary breakthrough with this new database is that everyone has access to a copy of the same information that can be mathematically proven to be the same, thus auto-reconciling. Rajesh Nair, the VP of Engineering at Paxos, will cover some of the basics of blockchain as well as preview some of the technology’s advancements. This discussion will reveal how blockchain developers are playing a pivotal role on the accelerating adoption of digital assets and how blockchain technology, being tamper-proof and immutable, is a major innovation for people in database networks, allowing anyone to have complete control over their assets without relying on intermediaries.

PRO TALK: MongoDB and Other NoSQL Database Techs in The Blockchain Stack
With the recent explosion of cryptocurrencies and the rapid rise of associated blockchain technologies, some seem to assume that blockchain will replace many other types of databases. Many even believe that blockchains are a database. We won’t debate that. However, we will discuss what blockchain is, why this technology is taking off, its basic architecture and functionality and how it really works. We'll also cover smart contracts a bit before pointing out where gaps still exist. It's in those gap areas that we go back to the idea of using complementary technologies - including NoSQL databases such as MongoDB and Elasticsearch - for multiple purposes as they make sense both on and off the blockchain, and show sample framework architectures such as for smart contracts.
